Sustainability Attributes
This closure is made of separable parts – the wood from the head and synthetic material in the leg can be easily disassembled by the consumer and disposed of in separate waste streams. The leg is compatible with the use of post-consumer recycled plastic, as well as polymers from a renewable source.
Recycling is the action or process of converting waste into reusable material. Downcycling is the recycling of waste where the recycled material is of lower quality and functionality than the original material. Downcycling is not desirable because plastic, once downcycled, cannot go back to being used for higher-value applications. Separating components by material can facilitate mechanical recycling and help obtain high-quality products.
