Ginnasium Lab
What really makes packaging memorable? This is the question behind Ginnasium Lab, a project that combines design, materials and research to understand how packaging influences consumer perception. For the 2026 edition, five Italian designers were invited to interpret five different territories through the design of a gin and its packaging. To bring these concepts to life, Berlin Packaging provided five of its references: Helium Mixology, Belleville Ribs, Alchemist, Jundo and Nocturne Ribs.

WHERE DESIGN, PACKAGING AND NEUROMARKETING COME TOGETHER.
Ginnasium is a special project born from the collaboration between companies specialized in different areas of the packaging value chain. The goal is not simply to create creative concepts, but to understand how each element of packaging contributes to building the consumer experience.
For this reason, each project was developed as a true design system, in which bottle, label, materials, finishes, printing and closure work together to tell a story about a territory and create value.
FIVE DESIGNERS. FIVE TERRITORIES. FIVE BERLIN PACKAGING BOTTLES.
For Berlin Packaging, packaging is never just a container. The five references selected for Ginnasium became the starting point to explore different expressive languages, demonstrating how form, proportions, textures and processes can contribute to building brand identity. Each bottle engages with the creative concept developed by the designer, becoming an integral part of the narrative.
HELIUM MIXOLOGY
Marche by Mark Design
Born from the observation of the Sentina Nature Reserve, the project developed by Mark Design translates the Marche landscape into an essential and contemporary visual language.
The Italian Knight becomes the core of the narrative, while textures, finishes and a reduced palette help build an identity that is immediately recognizable.
The slender silhouette of Helium Mixology enhances the concept and leaves room for the expressiveness of the label, contributing to the creation of elegant and distinctive packaging.
BELLEVILLE RIBS
Trentino-Alto Adige by Killer Idea
For this project, Killer Idea drew inspiration from the castles of Trentino and the Castello del Buonconsiglio.
Arched openings become visual thresholds that invite exploration, while transparencies and graphic applications transform the Belleville Ribs bottle into an architectural space in constant evolution.
The characteristic vertical ribs of the bottle amplify the perception of depth and contribute to enhancing the dialogue between design, glass and materials.
ALCHEMIST
Emilia Romagna by Rewot
Inspired by impressions gathered along the Via Emilia, the project developed by Rewot interprets the territory through an evocative and contemporary visual language.
The lines running across the label resemble maps and routes, transforming the packaging into a narrative made of places, memories and connections. The result is an essential yet detail-rich design, capable of inviting the observer to pause and discover new elements with every glance.
The flat shoulders and defined neck of the Alchemist bottle create a balanced silhouette that is immediately recognizable, while the compact proportions reinforce its distinctive character.
Jundo
Piemonte by Artevino
Inspired by the historic connection between Piedmont and Japan through the silk trade, the project developed by Artevino translates a cultural exchange into an essential and contemporary visual language.
The gold foil lines and debossing details build a narrative of balance, rhythm and lightness, while the label structure accompanies the rotation of the bottle allowing new details to emerge.
Inspired by the concept of purity from which it takes its name, Jundo combines formal rigor and elegance. The concentrated weight at the base narrows the silhouette and creates a visual balance that enhances the distinctive character of the project.
Nocturne Ribs
Sardegna by Redfish
Created from the rituals of the Barbagia Carnival, the project developed by Redfish interprets one of the most iconic traditions of Sardinia through a narrative made of symbols, contrasts and transformation.
The Boe mask becomes the focal point of the story, while textures, embossing and material finishes evoke elements typical of the local tradition. The label gradually reveals itself as the bottle rotates, transforming packaging into an experience of discovery.
The characteristic vertical ribs of Nocturne Ribs enhance depth and movement, contributing to elevating the dialogue between glass, graphics and materials.
WHAT NEUROMARKETING HAS TAUGHT US
The study conducted by partner SenseCatch made it possible to observe how consumers interact with packaging during the product selection and exploration process. The results highlighted some recurring elements:
โข color contrasts and distinctive shapes capture attention more quickly;
โข textures, ribs and finishes increase the perception of quality;
โข transparencies and multi-layer structures extend observation time;
โข unexpected details enhance engagement and memorability;
โข the shape of the bottle contributes to building product expectations.
Packaging thus emerges as an integrated system in which every component contributes to the final brand perception. The Ginnasium Lab project demonstrates that effective packaging is born from the meeting of creativity, materials and research. For Berlin Packaging, every bottle represents a design platform capable of enhancing an idea, strengthening an identity and contributing to building the consumer experience. Because packaging does not simply contain a productโit can make it visible and memorable.
