UN-Approved LITHIUM BATTERY PACKAGING

Berlin Packaging offers a wide range of UN-Approved packaging for (defective) lithium batteries for customers in various end markets, such as the automotive, electronics, and cycling industry.

PACKAGING FOR LITHIUM BATTERIES

Berlin Packaging's Dangerous Goods division offers a wide range of UN-Approved lithium battery packaging. The increasing number of lithium batteries (for power generation, communications, industry and vehicles) are a new type of fire hazard where fire protection is a challenge. To prevent safety-critical situations, multiple levels of defense are required to minimize and control the serious consequences of a lithium battery failure and thermal runaway.

UN-Approved packaging for lithium batteries is essential to eliminate these hazards during the transportation and storage of lithium batteries. At Berlin Packaging, we provide high-quality packaging solutions designed to meet stringent international regulations, ensuring the safe and compliant transportation of lithium batteries.

Our lithium battery packaging range consists of three different parts:

• UN-Certified boxes for lithium battery packaging
• UN-Certified cases for lithium battery packaging
BUNCKER®, advanced thermal runaway packaging for lithium batteries.

BATTERY TYPES AND PACKAGING REQUIREMENTS

To determine which packaging is suitable for the transport and storage of lithium batteries, it is important to know what type of batteries need to be packed. There are three different types of batteries:

• Approved batteries, properly functioning batteries

• Unapproved good batteries, often prototypes

• Defective or unstable batteries

All the above types of batteries require different packaging solutions and UN-Certifications. For example, ADR packing instruction P908 is required for damaged lithium batteries . A packaging with non-flammable and non-conductive insulation/cushion has been developed especially for this category.

Our expert team is ready to assist you in selecting the right packaging that ensures safety, compliance, certification and durability for your lithium batteries.
