Our Sustainable Procurement Framework
At Berlin Packaging, sustainability is more than a commitment - it’s at the heart of how we source, design, and deliver packaging. From ethical sourcing to reducing carbon emissions, we work hand in hand with our customers and suppliers to create packaging solutions that are better for people and the planet.
We are working to promote supplier diversity, improve labour practices, and ensure the ethical sourcing of materials, all in compliance with relevant regulations.
These initiatives enable us to provide innovative, sustainable packaging solutions that meet the growing demand for environmental responsibility across industries.
Our sustainable procurement approach is guided by our Sustainable Procurement Policy, which is built around four key pillars:
Sustainable Packaging Procurement
We focus on sourcing materials that align with circular economy principles, offering packaging with more sustainable features, also based on specific needs of our customers. In collaboration with our suppliers, we develop practical, innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact without compromising the highest standards of quality and functionality.
Based on our C.O.R.E. (Circularity, Optimization, Reuse & Refill and Environmental Services) Model, we work closely with our customers to create sustainable packaging solutions, for different end-markets:
Food and Beverage.
The Helium for Oil and Vinegar bottles are crafted with up to 75% recycled glass, and their lightweight design reduces material usage. The carbon footprint of each bottle is calculated and offset through certified projects in collaboration with ClimatePartner.Beauty and Personal Care.
The Airglass Refill & Go features reusable and refillable cosmetic jars enhanced with airless technology. With a simple click, you can insert a new refill or alternate multiple refills using the same outer container.Industrial.
The Cheertainer® Bag In Box system is an ideal alternative to traditional jerrycans. It features a sturdy cardboard outer box that protects the inner liquid-filled bag, offering improved space efficiency in warehouses and reduced transportation costs.
Promoting circular systems, optimizing packaging performance, and designing refill and reuse models are at the heart of our sustainable value proposition.

Quality and Transparency
We are dedicated to delivering the highest standards in packaging solutions, with a strong focus on traceability. As part of our commitment to environmental and human health, we prioritize compliance with the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation.
We ensure every product we source complies with REACH, protecting both people and the planet. Our packaging solutions are designed to minimize the use of harmful chemicals while meeting regulatory requirements and exceeding customer expectations.
To build trust and transparency across our value chain, we monitor our suppliers’ performances on Sedex, supporting continuous improvement.

Supplier Sustainability and Climate Action
We are actively engaging with our global network of suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions. As part of our broader commitment to mitigating climate change, we have had our emissions reduction targets independently verified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our ambitious Scope 1, 2, and 3 reduction goals are anchored to a 2022 baseline:
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions: 44.8% reduction by 2030; 90% reduction by 2050.
Scope 3 emissions: 51.6% reduction per U.S. dollar of revenue by 2030; 97% reduction per U.S. dollar of revenue by 2050.
As part of our EMEA Supplier Engagement Program, which aims to build strong partnerships with our suppliers and drive meaningful progress toward shared sustainability goals, we collaborate to share best practices, develop innovative and sustainable solutions, and navigate the evolving landscape of EU sustainability regulations, such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste regulation (PPWR).
This collaborative approach reinforces our commitment to supporting customers with tailored guidance through complex regulatory changes and enables us to meet their growing sustainability expectations.
We are also assessing the sustainability and social responsibility practices of our high-risk and key suppliers through independent audits conducted by third-party assessment platforms (Sedex). This ensures alignment with both our internal standards, clearly outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct, and the expectations of our customers.

Supplier Social Integrity
Within our supply chain, we uphold the highest standards of social integrity.
We are committed to respecting human rights, promoting supplier diversity, and ensuring our network is an inclusive, ethical, and fair network. To set clear expectations, we’ve established:
our Supplier Code of Conduct (CoC) outlines the ethical, environmental, and operational standards we expect from all suppliers, covering key areas such as labour practices, human rights, environmental sustainability, and business integrity.
our Supplier Self-Assessment Form (SAF) serves as an initial evaluation tool to assess suppliers’ practices in areas like sustainability, quality, and compliance. By requiring our suppliers to complete the SAF, we ensure transparency, understand their commitment to our ethical and sustainability standards, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
This process helps identify strengths and areas for improvement within our supply chain, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and collaboration.
Using the third-party assessment platform Sedex we evaluate and monitor our high-risk suppliers' social performance. Through audits and detailed questionnaires, we gain insights into their operations and identify potential areas of concern. We then engage directly with these suppliers to understand their position and check the implementation of their action plans.
