Seeds & Plant Foods

Seeds are a valuable product, which is why great attention is paid to quality during packaging.

QUALITY MEETS SUSTAINABILITY

Seeds are a valuable product, which is why great attention is paid to quality during packaging. The seeds are carefully sorted and packaged in small batches. To ensure optimum protection and maintain seed vitality, agricultural seeds require packaging with the highest quality standards and strong barriers against moisture and UV exposure. This guarantees that high-value seeds remain in perfect condition for optimum growth.

To further increase product safety, additional security features such as watermarking, holographic printing, inside printing, and tamper-evident options can be incorporated. The seed market is diverse, with applications ranging from vegetable garden seeds to seeds for human and animal consumption. Seeds are often packaged in flat pouches, unlike plant nutrients, which are considered lower-value products. However, in the market for plants and their nutrition, sustainable packaging plays a more significant role.

Similarities in Packaging: Seeds & Plant Nutrients

Seeds and plant nutrients share the common characteristic of being dry products, resulting in similar packaging and filling processes. Both use anti-static packaging to prevent clumping and incorporate (micro) perforation in their packaging.

In the seed industry, perforation creates airflow within the package, helping to keep seeds fresh for longer. In contrast, perforation in plant nutrient packaging serves a different purpose. Small holes in the packaging allow the nutrients to dissolve gradually in water without the need to tear the package open. This makes it easy to place a bouquet in a vase along with the plant nutrients, ensuring a slow and even release into the water.

TAMPER-EVIDENT SEAL

A widely used method in seed packaging is tamper-evident technology. A tamper-evident seal protects the contents of the seed packaging and prevents tampering. Once opened, the seal is broken, making any interference immediately visible. This method is also commonly used in other industries, such as pharmaceuticals.
